Enable / disable the write allocate function in the 15MB to 16MB area.

・ Light allocate upper limit address
Sets the range of memory to which the write allocate function is applied. In 4MB increments
Can only be set. The upper limit is the installed memory capacity.

You will not be able to make settings on the CPU.
Follow the procedure below to start in safe mode.

   <For Windows 95>

      Please press.

You can start Windows98 in safe mode.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
14. What is light allocate? .. ..
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The AMD-K6 processor has a 32K byte instruction cache and
32K bytes of data cache, 64K bytes of write back in total
   It has a built-in L1 cache.

The processor has an efficient cache line size (3) for external memory.
   2 bytes
Burst read (continuous high-speed reading without counting up the address) in units)
To put out). And when memory writing is needed, write temporarily
Hold the cycle and write cycle to external memory during read cycle
   Execute (write back).

The write allocate function is a memory by streamlining the memory write cycle.
   Improves access performance.
The processor is suspending the memory write cycle in the cache line and
And if that line is not using the L1 data cache, write
   The allocation function is enabled.

This causes the processor to hold a memory write on the cache line.
Data cache without performing writes to cycles and external buses
Rewrite the data in the line.

32-byte burst read when the write allocate function is enabled
Read because the cycle is executed instead of a non-burst write cycle
Performance gains over running light cycles between cycles
   You can feel it.

Due to the nature of the software, memory access tends to occur in close proximity to each other.
I have. Therefore, write continuously to the light-allocated cache line.
You are more likely to hit.

Inconsistency of memory or allocation of L1 cache due to external DMA or the like.
Moves to another area and has to surrender the cache line
Memory access is possible because the memory is written in a batch with burst write.
   It will be more efficient.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15. What is MTRR (Memory Type Range Register)?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   About MTRR
AMD-K6-2: Model8 / [F: 8] and later CPUs are based on MTRR (Memory Type Range Regsters).
UnCacheable or Write Combining can be set in the specified memory area
   became.

   None: Not set
   UnCacheable: Not cached
Write Combining: Write with write merge.

Memory set to Write Combining is not cached.
A large number of write cycles are stored in the Write Merge Buffer, and one write cycle
   Integrate into.
This improves overall system performance and reduces the use of processor buses.
   Reduce.

Base address: The beginning of the memory area to set for UnCacheable or Write Combining
                     Specify the address.
Memory size: The size of the memory area to set for UnCacheable or Write Combining
                     Specify. The size is 128kB 256kB 512kB 1MB 2MB 4MB 8MB
                     16MB 32MB 64MB 128MB 256MB 512MB 1GB 2GB 4GB
                     vinegar.

To use it, set the memory area used by the video card to Write Combining.
By setting it, it is expected that the drawing performance will be improved.
However, setting it does not necessarily improve performance.

Also, depending on the area to be set, the system may become unstable or hang up.
We recommend that you do not set it for beginners as it may occur.

If you select "Yes" here, CONFIG. SYSTEM. SYS and
EMM386. Before EXE, HK6CTRL. To load EXE
It will be rewritten and the PC will be restarted. This allows the CPU to be set correctly.
    It will be like.
If "No" is selected, CONFIG. No changes to SYS
Continue to start Windows. However, a similar message is displayed every time the reboot is performed.
    Display and prompt for changes.

Here, when the "Y" key is pressed, CONFIG. SYSTEM. SYS and
EMM386. Before EXE, HK6CTRL. To load EXE
It will be rewritten and the PC will be restarted. This allows the CPU to be set correctly.
    It will be like.
When the "N" key is pressed, CONFIG. No changes to SYS
Continue to start Windows. However, a similar message is displayed every time the reboot is performed.
    Display and prompt for changes.

  2) From the command line in Windows98 environment (including Windows95 OSR2.x)
HK6CTRL. I cannot change the CPU settings by starting EXE.
When changing the settings, use an editor or the like to use CONFIG. Changing the SYS
Just start the installer again from the utility disk and set it.
    Please.

  * If you have installed the Windows 95 high-speed CPU compatible driver, uninstall it.
Please upgrade to Windows 98 after installing.
Windows 98 does not require a high-speed CPU compatible driver.
