How To Configure PPP on a Linux Platform
========================================

Overview
--------

PPP provides TCP/IP protocol over serial link.
This feature is provided by using "pppd" application.

"pppd" is a powerfull application which can implement
different Network configurations.
There were created front-end applications to help
using pppd (for example "kppp").

This document provides an example how to configure "pppd"
using "chat" utility.

NOTE: This document provides just a small example
       and it doesn't cover all the cases and problems.
       You can find much more complete information from
       the sources listed in "Bibliography" Chapter.

chat
----

"pppd" starts the "chat" utility to connect to an ISP.
"chat" is a simple utility which uses "AT" commands to
connect to an ISP.
After the connection is established it returns the control
to the "pppd" which starts the PPP protocol.
