1.  QUICK START TO DOS/WINDOWS 3.1 INSTALLATION

The procedure below describes how to install the software :

  - If you are replacing an existing sound card, make sure to uninstall
    its drivers (typically you may need to modify config.sys, autoexec.bat,
    c:\windows\system.ini and c:\windows\win.ini.

  - This installation only needs MS-DOS and hence exit from Windows 3.1 to
    the DOS prompt before installation.

  - Place the disk labeled "Dynasonix Wave Disk #1" in Drive A.

  - Type A: and press ENTER to change to Drive A.

  - Type "INSTALL" and press ENTER to begin the installation.

  - Follow the instructions with the installation. Note: The current
    installation requires that the Windows directory not be nested in a
    subdirectory.

  - If your system uses DOS startup menus in config.sys and autoexec.bat,
    you will need to manually edit these files to put the DynaSonix Wave
    related statements in the appropriate section.

  - Reboot the system to activate the drivers.

2. DETAILED DOS/WINDOWS 3.1 INSTALLATION

  - Read the above section on quick start first.

  INSTALL.EXE will do the following:

  - Check your system for enough free memory to complete the installation
    process.

  - Create the directory C:\IWCONFIG.TMP on your hard disk drive if it does
    not already exist.

  - Copy the CONFIG files to your hard disk and run CONFIG.EXE .

  CONFIG.EXE will do the following :

  - Extract, copy and expand files from your floppy disks to the Sonixwav and
    Windows directories as appropriate, or to other target directories if
    specified in the Custom install option.

  - Update your CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI files.

  - When Windows 3.1 is next started, MAKEGRP.EXE will be executed
    automatically from a RUN=... line in WIN.INI. It will complete
    the installation process for Windows by building a program group
    for the DynaSonix Wave Applications.

  With the Express Setup:

  In CONFIG.SYS, the following will be added :

    DEVICE=C:\SONIXWAV\DOS\IWINIT.EXE INTERWAVE=C:\SONIXWAV\IW.INI

  In AUTOEXEC.BAT:

    C:\SONIXWAV\DOS\DYNSONIX INIT > C:\PNP.LOG
    SET INTERWAVE=C:\SONIXWAV\IW.INI
    PATH=%path%;C:\SONIXWAV\DOS
    CALL C:\SONIXWAV\DOS\GAMEBOX
    (the path C:\SONIXWAV\DOS will also be appended to existing path
	statements)

  In SYSTEM.INI:

    [boot]
    drivers=mmsystem.dll MSMIXMGR.DLL

    [drivers]
    WAVE=INTERWAV.DRV
    MIDI=INTERWAV.DRV
    MIXER=INTERWAV.DRV
    AUX=INTERWAV.DRV

    [386Enh]
    DEVICE=VIWD.386

  In WIN.INI:

    [windows]
    RUN=C:\SONIXWAV\WINDOWS\MAKEGRP.EXE
    (this entry is automatically removed by MAKEGRP.EXE after execution)

  Notes:
    MSMIXMGR.DLL is the Microsoft Windows mixer API library.
    INTERWAV.DRV is the base driver comprising WAVE, MIDI, and MIXER
      functions.
    VIWD.386 is the virtual device driver for Windows Enhanced Mode.

  The Windows driver INTERWAV.DRV may be removed with Windows 3.1
  Control Panel "Drivers" applet, and restored by using the OEMSETUP.INF
  file in C:\SONIXWAV\WINDOWS .
