Aria 16se SCSI Installation Notes
12/6/93

BASIC INSTALLATION
In order to properly install the Aria 16se SCSI interface:

    1. Copy Aria files to your hard drive
    2. Set up the Aria Hardware
    3. Modify your system files

        A. Add the following line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
                C:\ARIA\BIN\CORELCDX.COM /D:MSCD0001 /M:10

This assumes that your Aria home directory is C:\ARIA.

        B. Add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS file
                DEVICE=C:\ARIA\BIN\FDCD.SYS /D:MSCD0001
REM Aria SCSI Notes. For SCSI to operate properly, the line containing
REM SOUNDCFG.SYS must precede the line containing FDCD.SYS. Additionally,
REM LASTDRIVE must equal Z or 1 greater than the # of drives on your system.

This assumes that your Aria home directory is C:\ARIA.

NOTE: this line must follow the line containing the Aria
sound board device drive SOUNDCFG.SYS. When you boot-up
your computer, SOUNDCFG.SYS loads your sound board configuration
and initializes the SCSI interface. the SCSI device driver
will not load if SOUNDCFG.SYS does not first initialize the
            sound card.

4: Set up the SCSI interface

Quick Install automatically completes all of these steps.
Custom Install allows you to manually complete each step.

SCSI HIGH MEMORY REQUIREMENTS

The Aria 16se SCSI interface requires a 2 Kilobyte block of your
computer's high memory for use as a data buffer. The interface may use
one of three different memory blocks with the following hexadecimal
address ranges: CA000-CBFFF, CE000-CFFFF, and DE000-DFFFF. Often these
ranges are abbreviated as: CA00-CBFF or CA00h-CBFFh, CE00-CFFF or
CE00h-CFFFh, DE00-DFFF or DE00h-DFFFh.

The Aria 16se Installation program will scan your computer to detect whether
one of these memory blocks is available. INSTALL will configure the SCSI
interface only if INSTALL can identify one of these three blocks as
available.

IF NO HIGH MEMORY IS AVAILABLE TO YOUR SCSI INTERFACE

If INSTALL cannot detect a free memory block, either installed device
drivers or a memory managing application is reserving all three of the
possible high memory blocks.

If you do not have a memory manager installed and INSTALL cannot reserve
an available memory block for your SCSI interface, back up your current
CONFIG.SYS file. Try removing other device drivers ("DEVICE=" lines),
one at a time, from CONFIG.SYS. Re-boot your system and re-run the Aria
installation program. If you have already run INSTALL and have set up the
Aria hardware, run INSTALL from the ARIA directory on your hard drive,
choose "Custom install", select "Set up SCSI", and run "Quick SCSI setup".
If INSTALL does not detect and available memory block, try removing
additional device drivers from your CONFIG.SYS file and re-running INSTALL
until a memory block is found.

USING MEMORY MANAGING SOFTWARE WITH THE ARIA SCSI

If the Aria 16se installation program's intitial scan of your computer
memory is unable to detect an available memory block for the SCSI interface,
INSTALL will scan your system for three of the most common memory managing
applications: EMM386.EXE (ships with DOS), 386MAX.SYS, and QEMM386.SYS.

If you are using a memory manager other than one of these three, refer to your
memory manager manual for instructions concerning reserving high memory.
Modify your memory manager to reserve one of the three possible memory blocks
discussed above, and re-boot your computer. Next, re-run INSTALL from the
Aria home directory, select "Custom install", choose "Set up SCSI", and run
"Quick SCSI setup". INSTALL should detect the memory buffer you reserved as
long as it is one of the three possible ranges for the ARIA SCSI. After
INSTALL configures your SCSI, exit to DOS and re-boot your computer.

If your are using one of the three memory manager applications detected by
INSTALL, INSTALL will display detailed information concerning how to modify
the installed memory manager to reserve memory and how to complete the
Aria 16se SCSI installation. In addition, INSTALL will create copies
of the appropriate system files that contain the memory manager commands
needed in order to reserve an area of high memory for your Aria 16se SCSI.

For your convenience, copies of the INSTALL information screens for the
three memory manager applications detected by INSTALL are included below.

EMM386 WITH DOS 6.0 OR LATER

Complete the Aria installation before exiting to configure EMM386.
After completing INSTALL, exit to the DOS prompt; and follow these
steps to complete the Aria 16se SCSI installation.

     1. Backup CONFIG.SYS. Rename the file C:\CONFIG.ARA to CONFIG.SYS.
CONFIG.ARA is a copy of CONFIG.SYS with command line arguments added
to the line containing EMM386.EXE in order to reserve an available
memory block for the ARIA 16se SCSI.

     2. Type "MEMMAKER" at the DOS prompt to re-configure system memory.

     3. Re-run INSTALL from the Aria home directory, select "Custom install",
choose "Setup SCSI", and run "Quick SCSI setup". INSTALL should find
an available memory block for the Aria 16se SCSI. After INSTALL
finds available memory for your SCSI, exit INSTALL and re-boot.

EMM386 WITH DOS 5.0 OR EARLIER

Complete the Aria installation before exiting to configure EMM386.
After completing this program, exit INSTALL; and follow these steps to
reserve memory for and complete the installation of the Aria 16se SCSI:

     2. Re-boot your computer and re-run INSTALL from the ARIA directory.
Select "Custom install", choose "Setup SCSI", and run "Quick SCSI
setup". INSTALL should find an available memory block for the Aria
        16se SCSI.

     3. After INSTALL finds available memory and configures your SCSI, you
must re-boot your computer to initialize the SCSI interface and CD-
        ROM device drivers.

386MAX

Complete the Aria 16se installation procedure before exiting to modify
386MAX. The following steps explain how to modify 386MAX and complete
the SCSI installation. 386MAX utilities reside in the 386MAX home
directory. The default 386MAX directory is C:\386MAX.

    1. Backup CONFIG.SYS and AUTEXEC.BAT. From the 386MAX directory, type
"STRIPMGR /R" to remove old 386MAX instructions from these files.

    2. In the 386MAX directory, backup 386MAX.PRO. Rename 386MAX.ARA to
       386MAX.PRO. Re-boot your computer. 386MAX.ARA is a copy of
386MAX.PRO with the addition of the line "RAM= <address range>",
that instructs 386MAX to reserve memory for the Aria SCSI.

    3. Run INSTALL from the ARIA directory, select "Custom install", choose
"Set up SCSI", and run "Quick SCSI setup". INSTALL should detect free
memory. After configuring the SCSI, exit INSTALL.

    4. Type "MAXIMIZE" and follow the screen instructions to
       re-configure memory.

QEMM386

Complete the Aria installation before exiting to configure QEMM386.
After completing this program, exit INSTALL; and follow these steps to
complete the installation of the Aria 16se SCSI:

     1. Backup CONFIG.SYS. Rename the file C:\CONFIG.ARA to CONFIG.SYS.
CONFIG.ARA is a copy of CONFIG.SYS with command line arguments added
to the line containing QEMM386.EXE in order to reserve an available
memory block for the ARIA 16se SCSI.
