FreeDOS Antivirus Emergency boot disk by ROSE SWE
using modified MODBOOT technology. Enhanced with ROSE SWE freeware tools

This bootdisk based on FreeDOS Beta 8 (http://www.freedos.org) was assembled
by ROSE SWE, Ralph Roth (http://come.to/rose_swe), rose_swe@hotmail.com

This package contains an image of a FreeDOS boot disk suitable to boot your
PC for maintenance, backup, partitioning and virus scanning. The disk
contains anti virus tools (MBRKill, Quick Memory Scanner etc.) as well as
other useful tools for maintenance (e.g. MBR-Info etc.).

This boot disk is immune against extended recursive partitions (also
known as extended circular partitions) that prevents users accessing
infected machines when booting MS/PC-DOS boot disks. I have tested this
boot disk against the Emperor.5826 and Emperor.5832 virus known for
extended recursive partitions.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

FreeDOS itself is covered by the GNU GPL License, however this floppy
contains programs (c) by ROSE SWE and third parties e.g. Bart Lagerweij or
Horst Schffer. You can distribute the complete archive (disk) under the
GNU license terms, but I would honor it to receive an e-mail, when you are
doing so, because as said above, it contains copyrighted stuff made by
me. If you do enhancements to this floppy, let me know. My stuff is
freeware, and fells not under the GNU GPL. NEVER REDISTRIBUTE MODIFIED
FAV_BOOT images containing third party software!

How to scan a Windows XP (NTFS) partition?

FreeDOS can only handle FAT16 and FAT32 file systems and not NTFS, Linux
or OS/2 specific file systems. However for NTFS there is a free read-only
   driver available from Sysinternal:

   I:\Tools>ntfsdos /?

NTFS File System Driver for DOS/Windows V3.0R+ (read-only)

           /V Verbose
           /W Describe write-access add-ons (or support)

Installing the image

> Do I reboot my machine to install the software on the floppy or just go
> into dos prompt?

Just open a command prompt (command.com or cmd.exe) on a virus free machine!

> In Dos, do I find my folder with the software and run the executable from
> there?
> example.... E:\AVBOOT\FAV_Boot.exe
> Will this automatically run and guide me from there?

No, there's no additionally help!

>Or do I have to run it in a different way?
> example.... E:\AVBOOT\FAV_Boot.exe A:\

That's the only way to put the image directly on a pre formatted 1.44 MB
floppy. If you are an advanced user you can also extract the image using
e.g. FAV_BOOT.EXE myimage.bin and then burn e.g. this image to a bootable
CD-ROM

  Ralph Roth

Q: I am missing a CD-ROM (insert your favorite tool here) driver!!!
A1: I haven't found yet a GPL or freeware driver to include into this package.
A2: You can add your favorites tools to an archive and unpack it then e.g.
using unzip provided on this disk or make with LHA a self extractor. The
directory \MISC contains add_ons.txt, a list of my personal add on archive
    for this disk.
A3: With build 70 and above we are using MODBOOT that can boot major CD-ROMs

Q: FreeDOS hangs when starting LoadLilo, Volkov Commander, and MemInfo etc...
A: This is a FreeDOS Beta. Contribute to the FreeDOS project for further
   development.

Q: Requirements?
A: 80386-SX with 8 MB and a bootable 1.44 MB floppy for first installation,
after booting from the floppy you can clone the disk to every bootable
device (minimum 1.2 MB size) using clone_av.bat drive:

Q: How to create a bootable CD-ROM?
A1: Use Nero and use the image file as bootable image
A2: Create a small partition, clone the disk using clone_av.bat and add your
favorites tools to it. Then use Nero to burn from this bootable partition a
    bootable CD-ROM.

Q: How to add extra stuff?
A: Pack your stuff into a TAR GNU Zip (.tgz) package and put it either on the
floppy into the subdirectory level1, level2 or level3. You also can put
it (if you had made a bootable CD-ROM) on the CD-ROM into \ROSE_SWE it will
   be unpacked automatically!

> CuteMouse funktioniert mit Logitech Scroll-Maus (OEM, M-S69) an PS/2.
Wunderbar, bei mir (Kensington mit COM1 auf PS/2 Adapter) leider nicht!

|_| |_|\___/ \__,_| |____/ \___/ \___/ \__| // Corporate MODBOOT

Starting with build 50 I use a heavy modified MODBOOT concept. I have cut
and pasted some passages from the MODBOOT tutorial for your reference, see
also: http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/modboot

The MODBOOT concept is (c) by Bart Lagerweij

My major changes are: Only GNU/Freeware stuff, some enhancements (xkeyb),
.tgz instead of .cab and some batches are modified.

Some extracts:
--->
MODBOOT is modular boot disk. All programs and files are placed in modules.
Adding functionally to your disk is as simple as copying one file (module)
to the correct folder. An example: to add Dos mouse support to your MODBOOT
disk you just copy the module called "mouse.cab" to the "\level1" folder on
your boot disk. All MODBOOT modules are packed using cabinet (.cab) files so
a MODBOOT disk can hold as much data as possible. To expand a .cab file you
simply put it in the right folder and MODBOOT will unpack it for you. When
the .cab file has an "\autorun.bat" MODBOOT will automatically execute it.

Corporate MODBOOT is a framework that will allow you to boot and run the
applications you need within your corporation in a very flexible way. The
boot disks are based on Bart's modular boot disks. Nowadays end users don't
run much Dos applications anymore. But system operators and PC technicians
still use Dos applications to manage PC's. You could say that they use it as
their tools. So for these people it is important to have the tools they need
available on all PC's in the company. Corporate MODBOOT is perfect for that.
